This act made me realize that King Claudius is not in control of Elsinore. King Claudius is not in control because he has to make sure that his decisions to not affect Hamlet in a bad way. Laertes asks Claudius, "...Tell me Why you proceeded not against these feats So crimeful and so Capital in nature, As by your safety, wisdom, all things else, You mainly were stirred up" (Act IV, Scene 7, Lines 5-9). King Claudius responded by saying, "...Why to public count i might not go Is the great love the general gender bear him (Act IV, Scene 7, Lines 17-18). Claudius says that the public loves Hamlet. This shows that if he would have prosecuted hamlet, he would have been instantly turned upon by his people. If he was turned upon, his rule would gone. Since King Claudius is not in control, Polonius is dead, and the people like Hamlet, I predict that Hamlet will indeed become the next king.
