I thought it was interesting that after reading Act V, we realize that Hamlet never truly goes through with his father's wishes. In one way, he does avenge his fathers death by killing Claudius, but Hamlet himself dies as well. Queen Gertrued also dies when she drinks the poison. The Ghost of Old Hamlet said to make sure that no harm comes to Gertrude and that is exactly what ends up happening. I feel like after reading this, Hamlet's attempt at fake madness was all just a big waste of time. Instead of pretending to be insane in order to distract people, why not just kill Claudius when you have the chance? Hamlet had many oppportunites to do just this and i think he would have been better suited by not developing the plan that he did. I think that if he would have just taken matters into his own hands right away, he would have properly avenged his father's death and would still be alive. Many others that he cared about that died would probably still be alive as well.
