I find it strange that Hamlet is the only character who seems to use figurative language. Hamlet enjoys puns and metaphors much more then any other character. His use of metaphor while insulting both Polonius and Ophelia on page 56 is an extended metaphor. Also on page 58 where he extends the thought of Denmark being a prison in which he is bound. I believe his, what seems overuse, of these small mannerisms descend from his lust for knowledge which is revealed by the Claudius. (For your intent In going back to school in Wittenberg, It is most retrograde to our desire;" (14). It could be inferred that Hamlet is actually one of the most learned in the play.
