I thought it was funny how Hamlet was insulting Polonius and Polonius did not even understand the insults (Lines 197-205). Hamlet is a very witty character and can think very quickly on his feet. I think that Hamlet’s smartness will come back to get the best of him later on in the story. Hamlet may be too smart for his own good and this could lead to his downfall. His intelligence may end up being Hamlet’s tragic flaw later on in the story. The comments Hamlet make to Polonius may have brought about suspicion for Polonius about Hamlet. He may think that Hamlet is up to something and may have a plan in mind for some reason. Polonius shows that he may have suspicion towards Hamlet when he says, “though this be madness, yet there is method in’t” (Lines 206-207). All of Hamlet’s insults and ingenious comments and actions may end up leading to horrendous events for Hamlet. Maybe his intelligence may prove to be a great trait for him by getting him out of a tough situation. With the way the story is going so far I do not think that his smartness will bring him good fortune.
